New York 2006

Eric Teichgraf

I saw the beautiful lady from miles away

This is what I've waited for this is the day

Prosperous America! Where I can run free

We must now go into the registry

Where we must take several tests to be our best

I'm nervous and excited my heart beats through my chest

Thousands of people crowd all around me

So much confusion! I've lost my family!

The doctor checks me in less than a minute

Oportunous America! At last I'm in it!

Unique New York

A city that certainly lives up to its reputation.  Always changing and evolving from its current state, rude loud and boisterous acts included.

Bigger and better than I expected, Professor Code taught me that New York City has a lot of history, and a lot of art deco.  Although its functional quarters may not be as functional, and the financial district may not be what it once was, its still extremely impressive.

While some of us got caught in tourist traps, we learned a lot about New York and I can’t wait to go back.

New York City, It’s the pace to be
It’s the epidemy of Urban Geography
With a skyline so impressive, big and mighty
It makes the people look so small and tiny

From the rich in their condos to the poor on the street
Everyone is marching to the New York City beat
There’s an ethnic makeup that’s incredibly diverse
But just watch your back, or you’ll loose your purse

From the subways to the taxies, it’s easy to get ‘round
Whether you’re on a journey to work, or homeward bound
With people so friendly, funny and witty
Who could not love good ‘ol New York City

Young students, there's a NYC place you can go.
I said, young students, when you're short on your dough.
I said, young students, there’s the Vanderbilt YMCA.

Where you can always stay...

It was fun to stay at the Vanderbilt Y-M-C-A (action).

Everything in NYC was so new and ideal.

We definitely all questioned if the Geography 343y fieldtrip was for real.

The landscapes, culture, people and landmarks were amazing to see

Everything from Times Square, the Chrysler Building to the Statue of Liberty.

The tours were insightful and something we will especially never forget

Although learning to recognize art deco was definitely the best.

It was amazing to experience N-Y-C (action).

The Statue of Liberty is one of the monumental highlights of New York City. It was a symbol for new immigrants on their way to Ellis Island, proclaiming their freedom into the “land of opportunity,” and continues to assert a sense of triumph and strength within the city after 9/11. With a breathtaking view of the New York City skyline, the Statue of Liberty is a wonder to behold, creating intrigue and mystery about one of the greatest cities in the world!

This picture was taken from the 16th floor of 575 Lexington Ave.

This is a very developed area of New York City; it is in areas like this in many major cities around the world that stand as monuments to the economic wealth of the city that funded in their construction.  As seen in this picture, in the process we have created efficient transportation for people and goods which allowed to growth of the economies to support them as well as transport the goods to create and sustain them which allows people to live and work in them.  Moreover buildings are also a testament to man’s dominance over nature; we have created cities as our own preferable habitat to the exclusion of the natural world; our Urban Jungle where nature is relegated to an ornamental role, if any.

My picture is of Central Park

this is the picture that gave me a spark.

There it was in all its glory.

Everyone who leaves has a story.

Our time is done in New York City.

8 days gone, such a pity.

As we head home ward bound

I am sure I'll see you all around.

Well now my turn is done.

I really had a lot of fun.

Areas such as this are prevalent in New York; I have grown to appreciate them.

With a wide variety of uses, public spaces allow citizens the right

to have equal access to areas that could have easily been set up

to fuel the demands of the more affluent.

With a fair trade of space below for more office space above everyone wins.

In doing so, a community feeling is brought to a large city that has been segregated into many areas,

enhancing its image as a more wholesome and friendly place.

Contrary to the negative connotations that many first time visitors would typically have of the city.

This place in particular is an escape from the everyday fast paced life

that most New Yorkers live a great place to relax, you can’t really ask for much more.
